This quilt was made by eighth grade classmates at The Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, Connecticut. As these 13-year-old girls gathered to create and work on putting this quilt together, they had an opportunity both to deal with their emotions surrounding the attacks of September 11, 2001, and to help memorialize the tragic events in NYC, just 20 miles from their school. Suffering, violence and tragedy had never before touched their young and sheltered lives of privilege. Many of them expressed frustration at being unable to help and also great sadness for those who suffered profound loss, devastation and trauma. They all offer their deepest wishes and prayers for healing, love and peace.

Drunell Levinson taught them how to transfer their design ideas onto fabric and to create their individual squares. This was the first time most of them had been involved in any quilting, needle or fabric arts. Joyce deMoose (Anna Harvey's mother) assembled and backed the quilt. These young women were very grateful to have been given the chance to participate in Ms. Levinson's project and thank her for her help and for the opportunity to contribute to this very meaningful artistic and emotional endeavor.
